Ingrid Wiener
Bedingte Wahrscheinlichkeit
February 1 – April 19, 2008

Ausstellung: 1. Februar – 19. April 2008
Eröffnung: Freitag, 1. Februar, 18–21 Uhr

In ihren Videos stellt sie u.a.

Exhibition: February 1 – April 19, 2008
Opening: Friday, February 1, 6–9 pm

In her second exhibition at the Barbara Wien Gallery, Ingrid Wiener shows her latest tapestries, films, and photographs.
In the center of the exhibition, we show the tapestry "First Steps on the Way to Bayes" (2007), in which Ingrid Wiener deals with the term of probability according to the mathematician and priest Thomas Bayes (1702-1761). It is an attempt to understand the approach of Bayes’ theorem of the conditional probability. The complex problem is portrayed on the basis of a memo, which she reproduces by weaving. This method of working is quite typical for Ingrid Wiener’s tapestries, which she often weaves every day objects into. One of the newest woven pieces, for example, shows spectacles.

Since 1986, Ingrid Wiener has lived in Yukon Territory on the border to Alaska. She has focused her work on the culture and the landscape of the north, ever since. Among other things, she introduces films about the inuit or sings the famous "north-west-passage" in her video works. Besides that, she has been taking aerial photographs of the Arctic landscape since 1989. For the first time, we are showing the "McKenzie Delta" series.

Presently, you can see a retrospective of Ingrid Wiener´s and Dieter Roth´s tapisteries at the Ernst Ludwig Kircher Museum in Davos: "You can also weave what you can not see". A detailed catalogue, rich in illustration, about their 25-year collaboration, was published for this exhibition.
